Игорь Сахновский

Igor Sakhnovsky was born in 1958 in Orsk where, in his opinion, the offal-filled Piroshki were the biggest attraction and the train station was the most romantic place. He left his family home at the age of 17 to try his luck as a movie actor in Moscow. After study of classical literature he worked as an editor for a publishing house and began to write lyric poetry. As a complete unknown he sent his novel to Novy Mir who published it immediately. In 2002 he received a Hawthornden Fellowship (UK) for his novel which has been translated into English. Igor Sakhnovsky lives in St Petersburg.
