Vladimir Lipovetsky, sailor and journalist was born in 1936. As sailor and oceanologist, he worked on ice-breakers at the North Pole, fishing cutters off the coast of Alaska and California, wheat cargo ships in the Caribbean, and crab-catchers in the Antarctic. He worked on this book for 25 years meeting witnesses, gathering photographs, memories and archive documents from all over the world. Vladimir Lipovetsky lives in Israel.
